Attention Deficit Disorder

Attention deficit disorder (ADD), with or without hyperactivity (ADHD) is a complex neurobiological disorder which usually requires pharmacudical as well as academic and counseling help. Counseling Services works, not only with students, but also with students' physicians and psychiatrists back home to help them manage their symptoms and accomidate to the rigors of academic life.

In some instances students come into Counseling Services and initially describe problems with symptoms they do not recognize as attention deficit disorder. In those instances, Counseling Services coordinates its efforts with those of area or home neuropsychologists and seeks to have a full battery of neuropsychological tests conducted in order to determine the presence, nature and extent of any attention deficit disorder that might be present. Counseling Services then continues to coordinate with area or home mental health professionals as well as with the Office of Student Affairs and the student's various faculty members to help the student make the best academic and personal accomidations possible.

It's easy to make an appointment at Counseling Services if you have concerns regarding attention deficit disorder. We'll be happy to address them with you.
