Making an Appointment

The easiest way to make an appointment to meet with one of our counselors is to call the office at
487-2538 any time Monday through Friday, from 8:00 am to 5:00 pm.

If this is your first appointment, you will be assigned a counselor depending on who is available to see you at the time that would be best for you. If for whatever reason you would prefer to see either a male or a female counselor, please let us know so at the time you are making that first appointment.

You can also simply walk into the office at The Hamar House during normal hours and make an appointment directly. If it is an emergency, please tell the person at the desk.

In Case of Emergency

During normal working hours

If you experience a personal emergency Monday through Friday 8 AM to 5 PM call 487-2538 and request an emergency appointment, or simply walk in to the office at The Hamar House (the little white house next to Fisher Hall). A counselor will see you as soon as possible.

During weekends or evenings

If you experience a personal emergency over the weekend or during the evening when The Hamar House is closed, please call Public Safety at 487-2216 and they will contact the counselor on-call.

When Medical Attention is Necessary

In extreme cases that involve medical care as well as counseling attention, go immediately to the Portage Health System Emergency Department in Hancock (their telephone number is 483-1111) or to Keweenaw Memorial Emergency Department in Laurium (their telephone number is 337-6500).
